Proof Delivers, ABE Applauds

The Pennsylvania Playhouse 2024 production of Proof by David Auburn received recognition in the 19th Annual ABE Awards, presented by Paul Weinstein of the Lehigh Valley Press. The production was honored with the George B. Miller Memorial Director Award (Play) for Mark A. Stutz, and the cast was awarded Best Ensemble (Play) for their “wonderfully understated” performance.

The ABE Awards praised Stutz’s direction as “nuanced, note-perfect and not formulaic,” highlighting his sensitive and intelligent approach to the Pulitzer Prize-winning drama. The ensemble—featuring Gabrielle Hondorp (Catherine), Brooke Harrsch (Claire), Andrew Maldonado (Hal), and Dale Beltzner (Robert)—was celebrated for delivering a cohesive and emotionally resonant performance that elevated the production into “a gem” of the season.

Proof ran from January 26 to February 11, 2024, and explored themes of genius, illness, and trust through the story of a young woman grappling with her late father’s mathematical legacy. The production was staged with a minimalist yet evocative set by Brett Oliveira.
